Youth & Shelter Services provides treatment programs for adolescents with substance abuse issues and co-occurring mental health conditions. Treatment at YSS is evidence-based and includes counseling, intervention, and education to promote personal responsibility and long-term recovery. YSS also provides support services for patients’ families and loved ones, and encourages family involvement in the recovery process.

Jason Haglund, MS, CADC Treatment Services Director
Jason Haglund is the Director of Treatment Services for Youth & Shelter Services, Inc. He obtained an undergraduate degree in Psychology from the University of Northern Iowa and his Masters in Counseling from Gannon University in Erie, PA. Jason joined YSS in September 2006 as the Director of Chemical Dependency. In 2008, he successfully merged the Family Counseling Centers of Boone and Ames with the Chemical Dependency Branch to form Treatment Services. As Director of Treatment Services, Jason has continued to lead YSS toward its goal of providing holistic and truly co-occurring services in all treatment programs. He organized and led YSS in the effort that, in 2009, led to the awarding of the maximum three-year national accreditation from CARF International for all nine core program areas provided. Mr. Haglund has worked with youth and their families his entire career in various levels of community and residential care. His professional experiences of emergency on-site crisis counseling, de-escalation ,and assessment of seriously mentally ill children and adults, coupled with his work in long-term, locked adolescent correctional/treatment facilities, gives him a unique perspective of at-risk, mentally-ill, and chemically-dependent youth and their families.
